About

Hi, my name is Cath and I am a potter based in Glasgow.

I first started making with clay after a trip to Japan in 2015, where I threw a little bowl in a studio along the Philosophers Path in Kyoto.

It was both a terrible and beautiful bowl, and the start of something. When I returned from that trip I signed up for night classes at a local arts centre. At the time I was feeling under a lot of pressure, trying to balance a day job with completing a masters in psychology, and I found playing with clay to be absorbing and grounding.

I was hooked.

I set up a small table-top wheel in a back room of my house and started practising. I also attended courses to develop my technique and learn more about ceramics, and I joined Turning Earth Studio in London, which led to opportunities to supply restaurants with small batches of tableware.

I currently make both functional ware as well as decorative pieces, using stoneware clay. My work is influenced by the time I spent in Japan, the natural world, words and music and food, and what it is to be human. I’m interested in clay as a means of expression, a conveyor of feeling, and in exploring the duality of fragility and strength that is inherent in this material.
